Gran Casino Jaragua is located in the heart of the city and is the largest casino in Santo Domingo.

Santo Domingo was founded in 1496 by the brother of Christopher Columbus as the capital of the first Spanish colony in the New World.
The original city site was located on the left bank of the Ozama River and was called Nueva Isabela.
Nueva Isabela was destroyed by a hurricane, it was then rebuilt in 1502 in its present location on the right bank of the river. It became the starting point of most of the Spanish expeditions of exploration and conquest of the other islands of the Caribbean. The Colonial zone was the first European settlement of the Americas and a designated World Heritage Site.
